"Waist" and "waste" are homonyms and many people confuse the two spellings although they have different uses. "Waist" is a noun and is used to denote the part of the body above the hips.
Waste
Exemple : ‘’I don't like to waste anything!’’
"Waste" can be used both as a noun and a verb. As a noun it denotes items which are not used and thrown away instead and as a verb it denotes the act of throwing these items away.
