Say or Tell?

Say
Exemple : ‘’My mum didn't say if she was coming tonight or not!’’
Many people confuse the verbs "say" and "tell." In order to explain the difference it can be best to think that one "says" something.
Tell
Exemple : ‘’Can you tell the teacher that I am going to be late please?’’
"Tell" is best remembered through thinking that one "tells" someone something.
