Persecute

"Persecute" and "prosecute" are written very similarly and thus are prone to be mixed up. "Persecute" means to treat someone unfairly.
Prosecute
Exemple : ‘’The victim has declared that she will not prosecute.’’
"Prosecute" is used in a legal context and means "to press charges."
