The difference between the phrases "long-term" and "long term" is subtle and thus they are often used wrongly. "Long-term" is used as a premodifying compound adjective; in other words when the entire phrase is being used to describe something else.

Long term

Exemple : ‘’I am planning for the long term.’’

"Long term" is used as a combination of the noun "term" and the adjective "long."
