Lone or Loan ?

The words "lone" and "loan" are homonyms and thus are susceptible to confusion. The word "lone" is an adjective which is placed before a noun in order to denote the sole or only one of something.
Exemple : ‘’When I was at university I took out a student loan.’’
The word "loan" is a noun normally used to denote a sum of money which is borrowed. It can also be used to denote other borrowed items. Furthermore, it can be used as a verb in order to denote the act of lending something.
