An university or A university?

Exemple : ‘’There is a univeristy in the centre of the city.’’

Although the word "university" begins with a vowel it should be preceded by "a" rather than "an." This is because "a" is used either with a singular noun which begins with a consonant or a singular noun which begins with a vowel but sounds like a consonant. Therefore the word "university" does start with a vowel but it sounds as though it starts with a "y", a consonant, and as a result "a" should be used. Another example of this type of word is "user."
